“World Museum” is the latest project by IMVF on Global Citizenship with the aim to contribute to the dissemination and implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
As many other NGOs worldwide, IMVF has been working on the implementation of the MDGs. Despite many conquests, with 1000 days to 2015, year of the deadline imposed by the UN to reach the eight MDGs we know that not all the objectives will be reached.
Although it is undeniable that the MDGs are the basis of national and international development policies, about 80% of the European citizens still do not know the MDGs and it is urgent that their knowledge on the main Development policies is strengthened.
In partnership with European Development NGOs and Museums from Hungary, Germany, Czech Republic and Portugal, the new Project “World Museum” integrates themes such as poverty, gender equality and environmental sustainability in the programmes and cultural agendas of these museums.
During a 36 month period (from April 2013 to March 2016) the aim is not only to strengthen knowledge on the MDGs amongst visitors but also museum technicians and Development NGOs, through an innovative approach that uses global education tools.
This project is co-financed by the European Union and coordinated in Portugal by IMVF, in close partnership with the Municipality of Loures and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria – Higher School of Education and Social Sciences, with an expected impact next to 90,000 visitors of museums in Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic and Portugal.
