By proposition of the European Parliament deputy Carlos Coelho, the Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr this year won the European Citizen’s Prize. The Eurodeputy pointed out “the importance of this prize awarded to the IMVF due to the work it has been doing in for several years in the cooperation and education for development”.
This award was created in 2008 and it is awarded annually by the European Parliament with the objective of compensating exceptional activities performed by the citizens, groups, associations or organizations regarding the promotion of a wider integration of the European citizens, cooperation, and European feeling reinforcement, in the scope of the values inherent to the European Union Fundamental Rights Charter.
The Eurodeputy Carlos Coelho, whom this year applied the IMVF for the award stressed “the importance of this award for the reinforcement of the cooperation ties between Europe and the CPLP, having Portugal a main role in this process.
In the 2015 edition it was given preference to projects related to the new European Year for Development. This year in Portugal, there were other people awarded with the European Citizen’s Prize, professor Mário Ruivo (proposed by the deputy Carlos Zorrinho) and doctor Manuela Eanes (proposed by the depity José Inácio Faria).
