Value Chain Service Provider for Investment Feasibility
Angola: provinces of Huambo, Malange e Bié
The Institute of Agricultural Development (Instituto de Desenvolvimento Agrário – IDA), an institution of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola (Ministério da Agricultura e Florestas – MINAGRIF) under the project Smallholder Agriculture Development and Commercialization (SADCP), locally known as MOSAP 2, is funded by the World Bank. It aims to support the development of smallholder farmers’ in Angola, increase agricultural productivity, production and market linkages for selected crops, that generate sustainable agricultural growth, in a larger area that is expected to cover 80 communes (part of 26 municipalities) in the provinces of Bié, Huambo and Malange.
OBJECTIVES
Overall: promotion of economic diversification, reduced dependence on oil and supporting the development of smallholder farmers’ in Angola.
Specific: promotion of productivity, production and market access for 50.000 eligible beneficiaries, currently engaged in agricultural production, rehabilitation of irrigation schemes, promotion of value chain activities of selected crops and the training of 600 structural technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola.
BENEFICIARIES
DIRECT: 50,000 farmers of 80 communes (administrative units) of 26 municipalities in the provinces of Bie, Huambo and Malange; 600 structural technicians of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Angola.
INDIRECT: 175,000 farmers
ACTIVITIES
Component 1 – Support to management of small irrigation schemes
- Preparation and follow up of irrigation sub-projects
- Support to management of irrigation schemes by Water User Associations (WUA’s)
Component 2 – Support for Agricultural Production Investments
- Support to the preparation of agriculture investment sub-projects
- Technical assistance to the implementation of the sub-projects
Component 3 – Support to Value Chains development, including Agricultural Storage, Processing and Marketing infrastructures (post-harvest)
- Data collection and information on agriculture marketing in target provinces
- Support to the preparation of Value Chain sub-projects
- Technical assistance to the implementation of the sub-projects
- Ensure environmental sustainability of investments
Component 4 – Training and capacity building – to farmers and smallholder’s farmers organizations, beneficiaries of the irrigation schemes (future WUA’s), amongst others
- Ensure information exchange mechanisms
- Support the organization of Annual Workshops
- Capacity Building for the preparation of sub-projects
- Capacity Building for the implementation of sub-projects
- Prepare and share Knowledge Transfer Toolbox
