The final of the National Debate Tournament “Convey your idea!” will take place on June 19 and 20, online, and will feature four teams: one team from the Francisco Rodrigues Lobo High School; one team from the São João de Brito School; and two teams from the National Scout Corps.
This educational tournament integrated in the #ClimateofChange campaign allows the debate and reflection on current global issues: peace and human rights, inclusion, participation, environmental protection, climate change, non-discrimination, migration and development.
We know from the ClimateofChange survey that the concern about climate change is high in Portugal. In every ten young Portuguese, more than six (63%) are very or extremely concerned about climate change, compared to the average of young Europeans that is less than 50% (46%).
Thus, and through this initiative, we will contribute to the understanding of the complex links between climate change phenomena and migration, encouraging the creation of a movement of informed people, willing to change their lifestyles and demand new development policies.
The winning team of the English National Debate Tournament Final will be selected to be part of a pan-European youth team, which in November 2021 will host a new debate tournament in Brussels and meet with European representatives.
