ERGUES – Education and Reform of Educational Governance in São Tomé and Príncipe is the new project in the field of education to be developed over the next three years in STP.

The tripartite cooperation agreement for its implementation was signed on the morning of 8 February in the Great Hall of the Portuguese Embassy in São Tomé and Príncipe by the Minister of Education, Culture and Sciences, Isabel Abreu, the Portuguese Ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, Cristina Moniz, and the members of the Board of the Marquês de Valle Flôr Association (AMVF), Paulo Freitas and Carolina Quina.

Financed by Portuguese Cooperation, through Camões, I.P., and co-funded by the partners involved in its implementation – AMVF (the organisation coordinating the action), the University of Aveiro, the University of Évora, the Portuguese Catholic University and the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém – this project will be implemented in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences of São Tomé and Príncipe and the University of São Tomé and Príncipe (USTP).

ERGUES, to be implemented between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2026, has the general aim of contributing to improving quality, equity and inclusion in São Tomé and Príncipe’s education system, and is structured around 4 axes: dual certification technical-vocational education; digital teaching materials for primary and secondary education; teacher training and research in education and strengthening the institutional capacity of São Tomé and Príncipe’s Ministry of Education.

For its implementation, AMVF relies on the proven experience and quality of the Local Coordination Team for Education in São Tomé – José Carlos Aragão, Leonor Santos and Madalena Cardoso, reinforced in this project by Esmael Fernandes, who is also recognised for his valuable experience in the sector.
