The European Union Ambassador to Gabon for São Tomé and Príncipe and ECCAS, Cécile Abadie, visited the intervention of the Health for All project – Consolidation of the National Health System of São Tomé and Príncipe, financed by Portuguese Cooperation, at the Dr Ayres de Menezes Hospital (HAM), in São Tomé, on the morning of 16 May.
The visit was accompanied by the Minister for Health and Women’s Rights, Ângela Costa, the Portuguese Ambassador to São Tomé and Príncipe, Cristina Moniz, the German Ambassador in Liberville, Horst Gruner, the Deputy Head of Delegation and Head of the Political Affairs Section of the EU Delegation, Nicolas Kasprzyk, the Executive Director of IMVF, Ahmed Zaky and the Director of HAM, Virgílio Mandinga.
This meeting highlighted the significant progress made in the area of health in São Tomé and Príncipe, made possible thanks to the support of the Health for All project– Consolidation of São Tomé and Príncipe’s National Health System, through investment in specialised and primary care and the development of Telemedicine, which now includes 10 medical specialties. Thus, it was possible to attend an Imaging Telemedicine consultation between São Tomé and Portugal, with Dr Marisa Lima (HAM) and Dr Celeste Alves (Champalimaud Foundation), respectively. Visits were also made to the operating theatres and the Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Dermatology departments, which were rehabilitated as part of the project.
The documentary ‘The Digital World at the Service of Health – The Case Study of Telemedicine in São Tomé and Príncipe’, released in 2022, was also screened.
The Health for All – Consolidation of the National Health System of São Tomé and Príncipe project is being implemented by AMVF– Associação Marquês de Valle Flôr, with the support of IMVF in close partnership with the São Tomé and Príncipe Ministry of Health and Women’s Rights, and funded by Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P. and the Portuguese Directorate-General for Health.
