FACT – Foster Awareness on the relevance of Checking the Truth

European Partnership: Italy, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Poland, Portugal, Lithuania, and Finland

Disinformation is a constantly evolving phenomenon that has a high potential to negatively influence democratic processes and social debates. It can affect democratic debate and the casting of votes, due to fake news that changes the orientation of citizens and makes the voter express a preference based on this news.

Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Greece, Lithuania, Romania, Finland, Poland, and Italy are some of the EU countries where people are less confident in their ability to recognize fake news (Flash Eurobarometer 464 – Fake news and disinformation) and less confident in the EU’s political system (Eurobarometer 91.5 -2019).

It is increasingly urgent to identify and dismantle fake news so that all citizens can make decisions based on reliable information.

OUR GOALS

Raising awareness of the importance of verifying the truth in the news. Through the participation and contribution of citizens to the democratic and civic life of the European Union, we will publicly publicise and exchange views on all areas of EU action. To this end, we will bring together a diverse range of people from different backgrounds (age, gender, level of education) in activities directly linked to EU policies against disinformation.

OUR ACTIVITIES

Gamification will be used to spread knowledge about the EU institutions and innovative tools will be created to debunk fake news and involve young people in independent fact-checking.
Gamification training modules will be developed for teachers and educators, as well as board games in schools, universities and youth centres.
There will also be promotion of the meaning of voting in the EU Parliament in 2024.

OUR IMPACT

With the creation of innovative tools to debunk fake news and involve young people in independent fact-checking, there will be greater dissemination with a short-term impact.
We also expect an immediate impact for the 2024 European elections by working with people most vulnerable to fake news to enable greater and more conscious participation in democratic life.
As a medium-term impact, the implementation of the Gamification tools developed at national level will be extended, thus multiplying the positive effects on a wider range of young people.
In the end, with the training, the online game and the online network of young people who will check independent facts, the long-term impact is to lay the foundations for the effective involvement of young people in society, who will be able to take advantage of a network and the most appropriate instruments to reach citizens who are not active in civic participation in their daily lives.

OUR PATH

The management and implementation of the project centres on different activities and different working methods, such as informal methodologies and gamification, all aimed at ensuring the smooth development of the project and effective cooperation between all those involved. In this way, we can contribute to the participation of citizens in the democratic and civic life of the European Union and fight against disinformation and fake news.
